Who writes

FDSE.dev is an independent editorial project. Pages are published as FDSE.dev editors. We do not invent a named expert, and we do not describe unpublished personal deployments as if they were ours. Palantir is discussed only as the company that popularized the title. We are not affiliated with Palantir or any employer.

Canonical guides vs articles

Seven guides are the reference pages: definition, comparison with software engineering, career path, skills, salary, interviews, and resources. Blog posts take one narrower question — negotiation scripts, clearance basics, a single system-design walkthrough — and should point back to the guide. If an article and a guide disagree, the guide is the page we update first.

Salary bands

Figures on the salary guide and in the salary estimator are editorial ranges for 2026, written as broad bands (for example mid-level US base around $140k–$190k). They are a synthesis of ranges commonly discussed in public job posts and career write-ups.

They are not:

• a survey we ran,
• a scraped dataset with a sample size,
• an offer you should expect,
• financial, tax, or legal advice.

The estimator applies simple, visible multipliers for region, travel, and clearance on top of those bands. The formula is shown on the tool page. We revise bands when the public conversation moves enough to change the band, not on a fixed calendar. Last salary review: September 2026.

Interview and skills material

Sample answers and system-design walkthroughs are practice material in the style of field-engineering interviews. They are not leaked questions from a named company. The readiness check maps your self-assessment to existing pages. It is not a score an employer uses.

Corrections

If a page is wrong, outdated, or overclaims, email [email protected] with the URL and the correction. We update the page and its “last updated” line. We do not pay for placement and we do not publish sponsored career rankings.

Advertising

If Google AdSense is enabled, ads are labeled by Google's own units. Advertising does not change guide conclusions. Cookie and ad disclosure is in the privacy policy.
